Welcome to Mordiford School PTFA

Dates for our activities can be found in the main School Diary - and you can add them to your own calendar if you like. The PTFA also has a Facebook group which we use for discussion and information. You can request an invite to the group by emailing ptfa@mordifordschool.org.uk.

Links to the minutes of our monthly meetings are now given via news items. You can also download the most recent AGM minutes here, and our financial report here.

Budget News

Thank you on behalf of the PTFA to everyone who came along to support, helped with or donated prizes to Bonfire Night, the Bingo night and the Christmas Bazaar held last term. These events raised: -

Bonfire night - £2100
Bingo night - £261
Christmas Bazaar - £872

All the money raised from the PTFA events go towards extra equipment or experiences that benefit all our children.

Last term, I attached to the PTFA newsletter a list of options of how we could spend some of the money raised based on what the teachers had said they felt would enhance our children’s learning experiences. We have collated the responses and it has been agreed that the school can purchase 5 laptops (meaning that every child within a class can access a computer at the same time), new PE equipment, musical instruments and new hall curtains.

Race Night

Race Night is planned for Friday 9th March from 7pm at Hampton Bishop Village Hall.

Book the babysitter and put the date in your diary! We are organising our very own Mordiford Gold Cup! This is promising to be a great evening of entertainment that you don’t want to miss. £5 a ticket includes a glass of fizz on arrival and a Ploughman’s Supper.

And on the subject of Ploughman’s, if anyone’s waistline is feeling the pinch and you have any packets of cheese biscuits, pickled onions, chutneys or nibbles that you would like to get out of the way of temptation, we would welcome donations! Please give them to Ali Watkins, Lisa Hince or Louisa Tobin ASAP.

The sub-committee is also planning to hold an auction during the evening, so if you have any contacts in the racing world who may be able to donate some racing memorabilia or tickets, please let Ali or Louisa know.

Tickets for the Race night will be on sale soon!

Weekend working party

It has been suggested that we could hold a working party one weekend to do any jobs around the school grounds that may need doing e.g picking up the fallen apples, weeding Dragon’s Den etc. This would involve the children in maintaining their school and would enhance community spirit! We have set a date for Saturday 21st April 2 - 4pm. Everyone is welcome to come along to help!

Wishlist for spending

All the fund-raising events that we hold throughout the year raisesmoney for us to add to / improve the facilities at school to benefit all ourchildren. In addition to our on-going contribution to the cost of school tripsand swimming etc, the teachers have recently been asked to produce a wish listof things that they feel may enhance our children’s experience at school. Asparents of the school, and therefore members of the PTFA, we would like to askyou how some of the funds should be spent. Please return the form sent home, indicating your preference, or email us.

School Parking

As you may be aware, we now have a sub-committee working with the schoolgovernors and local residents to address the age-old problem of parking at theschool. Thank you to everyone who completed the recent questionnaire. Theresults showed that the preferred option was a Drop and Go system, with 90% ofyou saying that you would use this. However, there are obviously no easy solutionsto this and considering the options will take time. In the meantime, an optionto reduce traffic is to try and car share wherever possible.

You may also not be aware that a teacher is on duty in the playgroundfrom 8.35am so it isn’t necessary to stay in the playground with your childuntil 8.45am.
